Thank you for visiting!

I’m Bill Robb the Managing Director of Brilliant Web Workshops.

We’re based in the bonny city of Aberdeen on the north east coast of Scotland.

At Brilliant Web Workshops we offer supervisors and middle managers straightforward, cost-effective and time-effective, advice that will help them enhance their skills and promotion prospects, and how to get enhanced performance from their teams.

VISION

There is so much "guff" about management these days, isn’t there? Simple common sense principles are dressed up in complex theory and made impractical with tons of paperwork.

At Brilliant Web Workshops we know that, learning should be enjoyable! I personally like a friendly but professional approach. So although our workshops are carefully prepared and logically structured, they’re presented in a light and informal way.

The numerous exercises will get you thinking and help you bridge the gap between knowing and doing.

One thing is for sure: we cut out all the unnecessary waffle and value-less exercises.

You can get feedback from me or one of my associates at BWW. We also ask for frequent and critical feedback so we can improve continuously. "Free" is a word we all like and all the Brilliant Web Workshops begin with a list of free tips and a free taster exercise.

By providing people like you with an excellent service we hope to be the Number One choice when people think about their career and personal development.

Why Web Workshops?

Fifteen years of giving management training workshops to managers from many different industries has taught me that time is our most precious resource. We need not only for getting things done at work but for our families too. I enjoy face-to-face workshops especially we can exchange views and experiences, and solve workplace problems. However, many face-to-face workshops don’t allow this and they become events for transmitting information. This is a luxuary we can’t and shouldn’t afford anymore. We need new skills and abilities quickly without the accompanying lengthy introductions and "background" theory.

The very nature of the World Wide Web lends itself to concise and snappy, interactive learning. Web workshops give you the facts concisely, but then let you practise the skills you need in private and at a time and place suitable to you. Web workshops take you quickly to an advanced level. Armed with this knowledge and have practised you’ll be even better prepared to discuss the practical and organisational issues that hinder performance. In other words face-to-face discussion will be even more beneficial after you have completed a web workshop.

My own background

Since 1993 through my management consultancy (William Robb Consultants) I’ve been assisting organisations in Aberdeen, Scotland, to improve the performance of their people. Since Aberdeen is the "oil capital of Europe", most of my work has been with a wide range of firms in the Oil and Gas Sector. I also undertake quite a bit of work for the Education Sector.

I was born in Glasgow in 1952 but emigrated in 1957 with my parents to Southern Rhodesia, as it was then, now Zimbabwe. After qualifying in Agricultural Economics at the University of Rhodesia in 1974, and after working for the Ministry of Agriculture and the Rhodesia Farmers Union, I taught Economics in the University of Cape Town for four years. While there I was give a project to assist students who were struggling with essay examinations. I was so fascinated with the complexities of teaching and learning that I changed careers and became an educator.

I took a number of qualifications in education. A wonderful opportunity arose to enter educational journalism when and then edited The Star newspaper’s newspaper-in-education programme in Johannesburg. It was this experience that developed my writing skills and taught me to express complex matters in easy to understand and entertaining style.

On returning to Glasgow in June 1985 with my wife Marichen, I lectured in the Department of Adult Education in the University of Glasgow for six years. It was here that I again changed careers. One of my roles was to use my learning and teaching skills to develop and teach management development programmes. I enjoyed assisting engineers from the electrical, mechanical and civil sectors to develop their management skills. Our family (we added a daughter – Catherine - in 1989) moved to Aberdeen in 1991.

In summary then, it seems as if my career has been heading towards BWW - a great opportunity for me to combine, writing, teaching and management training skills.

And so what about you?

Why did you visit our site today? More and more people are realising that they have to be proactive in developing their skills. It’s a hard fact that people are promoted on their ability to get things done through people, - under trying circumstances and with minimum fuss and excuses. Please do try a few of the taster exercises – you’ll enjoy them.

If you have any questions about your own personal or career development feel free to e-mail me. Of course, if the volume of mail is heavy it may take me or an associate a lttle while to get back to you.

Just for the record I’ve supplied below, some of the company and legal details for BWW.

Kind regards

Dr Bill Robb
